Obituary for Fred Bannister Jr.

Warner Robins- Fred Bannister, Jr., 78, passed away on Friday March 17, 2017 at his residence with his beloved wife and family by his side. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 11:00 am in Burpee-Scott Chapel, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Fred will be laid to rest with full military honors at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville, GA.
Fred was born on August 22, 1938 to the late Fred Bannister, Sr. and Evelyn Neal in Perry, GA. After graduating high school, Fred enlisted into the Army where he faithfully served his country from which he retired as a Sergeant First Class. Fred continued his service in the community by serving in the VFW, where he became the first black commander on Corder Road. He also served and worked with Happy Hour for a few years. Fred was always putting others before himself. He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Vernestine and Melissa Bannister and his son, William Frank Bannister.
Fred leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife: Gisela Nuhn Bannister, Warner Robins; adopted mother: Emma Bannister, Perry; son: Chad Bannister, Warner Robins; 10 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; four sisters: Laverne Friday (Gene), Agnes Killen, Annette Thompson (William) and Paulette Bannister; two brothers: Charles & Larry Bannister and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Homestead Hospice, Coast to Coast Transport and to Fresenius Dialysis for their love, care and support.
