Obituary for Donald Ray Carter

Byron, GA – Donald Ray Carter, 64, passed away unexpectedly at his mother’s home on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 3:00 pm in Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory with full military honors. The visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior and immediately following the services. A private burial will take place in Andersonville National Cemetery.
Donald was born on August 7, 1955 in Thomaston, GA to the late Billy Gene Carter and Martha Ann (Keen) Carter of Byron, GA. He lived most of his teenage years in Warner Robins, Ga, where he was a member of the 1973 class at Northside High School. After graduation, Donald faithfully and proudly served his country in the United States Army until his retirement. He was currently residing in Moss Point, MS, where he also retired from the City of Biloxi. Donald was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was also an avid bowler and was a member of several bowling leagues. Donald enjoyed all these activities, but his greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. In addition to his father, Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Andy Carter.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 21 years, Janice Jaye (Walburn) Carter of Moss Point, MS; sons: Benjamin Lamar Carter of Texas, Donald Ray Carter, Jr. of California and Jason Park of Byron, GA; daughter: Kristy Hill of Ocean Springs, MS; 7 grandchildren; sister: Sheila Grube (Jeff) of Warner Robins, GA; brother: Dale Carter of Byron, GA and several nieces and nephews.
