Obituary for Alfred Ray Harper Sr.

Perry, GA – Alfred Ray Harper, Sr., 74, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021 at his residence. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory. Services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory with Reverend Jay Lauritsen officiating. A private burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Macon, GA.
Al was born on September 15, 1946 in Macon, GA to the late Silas and Edna (Schaffer) Harper. He worked for several years as a police officer and a fireman. Al was a giving and selfless man, who always enjoyed helping and serving others. He worked for many years as a self - employed painter until his retirement. He loved fishing, watching Nascar and attending dirt track racing, but his greatest joy came from cooking. Al won many BBQ competitions and was known for his secret recipes of BBQ sauce and cole - slaw. He was a former member of Southside Baptist Church in Macon, GA, where he served faithfully for many years.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Beverly Annette (Shealy) Harper of Perry, GA; daughters: Lisa Vaughn (Randy Walls) of Macon, GA, Michelle Hickox (Robbie) of Covington, GA, Sandy Floyd (Mark) of Byron, GA; son: Ray Harper (Katie Singleton) of Perry, GA; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister: June Pettis of Macon, GA; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
