Obituary for Charles Gary Quimby

Hawkinsville, GA -- Charles Gary Quimby, 87, went home to be with our Lord on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Houston Medical Center. The services celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 11:00 am at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel and Crematory with full military honors. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services to be officiated by The Reverend Matt Caporale. Interment will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, at Georgia's Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family requests no flowers, but welcomes donations in the memory of their husband, father and grandfather to his chosen cause, Georgia Baptist Children's Home, 9420 Blackshear Hwy SE, Baxley, GA 31513.
Charles (Gary) was born on October 30, 1935, in Castleberry, Alabama to the late Burl and Frankie Quimby. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
The family moved to Georgia in 1973, where Charles and Janis built their home with their own hands; a home which remains the family centerpiece. He retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base as Deputy Director of The Air Force Reserve. Upon retirement, Charles and Janis established and operated the nation's then largest kiwi vineyard east of The Mississippi, Double Q Farms.
Left to cherish his memory and the laughter and joy he inspired are his beloved wife of 68 years, Janis (Jernigan) Quimby; daughter Crys (Crystal) Quimby Jarrin (John); son Mark Quimby (Jinger); granddaughters Kaitlyn Munn (Kane) and Kendall Cajuste (Kingsley.) He will always be Papa to great grandsons Carson, Carter, Cohen, Asher and Kai; grand stepson Matt Caporale (Tiffany & sons Elijah, Ezra & Judah;) grand stepdaughter Heather Clark (Jason & daughter Rachel.)
