Obituary for Connie Colwell (Knighton)

Fort Valley, GA – Connie (Knighton) Colwell, 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the Church Home for The Aged. A visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, March 7, 2020 beginning at 12:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory. Funeral services celebrating her life will be Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel with interment following at Oak Hill Cemetery at 3:00 pm in Talbotton, GA.
Connie was born on October 9, 1927 in Lumpkin, GA to the late William Alexander and Carrie Cornilla (Banks) Knighton. She was the Salutatorian of her high school graduating class. Connie went on to attend Columbus College of fine arts. She was a former member of Talbotton Baptist Church in Talbotton, GA and Philadelphia Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL, where she was a Sunday school teacher and an active member of the Son Shiners Sunday School Class. Connie loved the Lord and served him faithfully until the end. In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her son, Richard Haywood Colwell, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Melanie E. Moss (Edwin Bruce) of Phenix City, AL, Patsy Lee Malone (Tommy) of Perry, GA and Weita C. Cunningham of Perry, GA; 3 grandchildren: Thad, Dawn and Allan; 7 great-grandchildren.
