Obituary for Delmar Boone Axton Jr.

Byron Ga - Delmar B. Axton Jr. passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 surrounded by family at his home.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 at Burpee Scott on Sunday, January 28, 2024. There will be a private celebration of life at a later date.

Delmar was born on August 18, 1946 in Macon Ga. He was the son of the late Delmar B. Axton Sr. And Helen Axton and was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Axton. Delmar retired from Robins Air Force Base where he was a toolmaker. He loved wood and could make anything. Delmar loved hunting and fishing but nothing compared to his love of music. Delmar played music of all kinds but mostly oldies, southern rock and bluegrass. He got his first snare drum the summer of 1958. He became the drummer of the band “The Rhythm Kings” where he played for many years with wonderful friends. He picked up the banjo and played in the bluegrass band “Sweet Water Run” but mostly loved picking in a circle with his friends from Hawkinsville, Ga. Delmar and Beverly shared a love of music like no other. On many occasions you could hear the music blaring from their home as they played old albums.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly Axton of Byron, his children Robby (Melanie) Axton of Perry, Sandy (Chuck) Pitts of Byron, Tracy Axton of Byron; his grandchildren Jessica Axton, Tori (Jon) Combs, Kayla (Holden) Vickers, and many nieces and nephews.
