Obituary

Obituary for Dorothy Mae "Dot" Gay (Etheridge)

Dorothy Mae (Etheridge) Gay, 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her adoring family. The Good Lord called her name on Saturday, May 30, 2020.

Please join us as we celebrate her blessed life on Tuesday, June 2nd. A visitation at 10 AM will be followed by her funeral service at 11 AM. Both will be held at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel, 2932 Highway 41 N., Fort Valley GA 31030. Dorothy will then be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please give generously to Kindred Hospice, who graciously and lovingly helped Dorothy as she completed her journey here on earth.Dorothy was born June 3, 1934 in Rentz, Georgia to the late William and Victoria (Radford) Etheridge.

Known as “Dot” to many, she was an amazing homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always had a clean house, hot homemade delicious meals prepared, and a kind word for everyone. She never missed an opportunity to serve her loved ones. Dorothy loved life and enjoyed gardening, playing board-games, traveling, putting together puzzles, going to yardsales, and baking her delicious, signature pecan pies!

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Clark Lincoln Gay, daughter-in-law Barb Gay, and six siblings, James Etheridge, Leo Etheridge, Claxton Etheridge, Inez Brewer, Avis Everett, and her dearly-adored twin and much missed sister, Doris McGowan.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: David Gay of Byron, Nancy (Steve) Gombkoto of Macon, Sheila (Tommy) Hunnicutt of Gallatin, Tennessee, Karen White of Warner Robins, and Barry (Brenda) Gay of Macon; nine precious grandchildren that she loved to spoil, 16 great-grandchildren, her devoted and loving nephew, Gregory Johnson, and many more loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Dorothy’s children will forever be grateful to Patricia Evans for the daily compassion, kindness and loving hands-on support shown to their mother for the last 2.5 years of her 10-year struggle with Alzheimer’s.

It is with great honor that Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
Reverend Jay Lauritsen will officiate.
