Ernie was born on August 5, 1948, in Perry, GA to the late Russell Sterling and Lillie Mae (Hendrix) Hodge. Ernie was a graduate of Northside High School in 1966 and was well known for his athletic abilities, specifically, his 65yd TD punt return against Valdosta High School in 1965. He was a very devoted and dedicated alumni to Northside High School and loved Northside High Football. He was an avid sports fan, but his true love was his family. Ernie always had a positive outlook on life, despite his injury that left him paralyzed. He obtained his master’s degree in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering, from which he eventually retired after working many years with various companies and ultimately self - employed. Ernie was a friend to many, and always maintained lasting relationships. He will be greatly missed.
His memories are left to be cherished by his loving wife, Mary Patricia (Van Osdol) Hodge; his adoring daughter, affectionately known by him as “sweet pea”, Melissa Hodge of Woodstock, GA; his siblings: Charlotte Youngclaus, Warner Robins, GA; and Rusty Hodge (Nancy), Byron, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
With honor, Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
