Nan was born on July 21, 1958, in Perry, Georgia to the late Henry Powell Toomer and Julia (Stokeling) Toomer-Newberry. He was a graduate of Perry High School, where he was a member of the Panther football and track teams. He had a passion of helping others and found joy in helping others through his work with the City of Perry’s Utility Company. He understood that many of life’s necessities included the service he could provide to others through the Utility Company. He believed in helping others through his words of encouragement, a simple home repair, or just a simple “Hey Man”. Nan also loved sports, but football was his favorite. His favorite past-time was watching the Dallas Cowboys play on Sundays with one of his best friends, Tim. Nan was known as a jack of all trades. He could repair just about anything. If it could be fixed, Nan was just the man to repair it. We all know a jack of all trades have many talents and specialties. Of course, Nan had many including his superb talent of detailing automobiles. Again, this was just his way of serving and helping others. Nan never met a stranger and would always put others before himself. His greatest love and joy in life was his children and grandchildren.
Nan accepted Christ as his Lord and savior in his early years. He attended Friendship Baptist Church in Henderson, Georgia.
