Obituary for Hazel Askew (Bennett)

Warner Robins, GA- Hazel (Bennett) Askew, 70, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2019 at Oceanside Nursing Home in Tybee Island, GA. Services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2019 at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory. There will be a gathering for family and friends following the services at Marie Bennett’s residence, 14 Mallory Court, Byron Ga 31008.
Hazel was born on November 13, 1949 in Perry, GA to the late Barney Freeman and Anne Ruth (Smith) Bennett. She was a retired civil servant from Robins Air Force Base. Hazel worked for 10 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Medical Center of Central Georgia. In her later years, Hazel served as caregiver to her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her former husbands, Donald Edgar Gatliff and Gerald Watson Askew; brothers: Robert Idrus Bennett and David Otis Bennett.
Survivors are two children Kimberly Anne (Gatliff) Carter Young, 51, longtime resident of Warner Robins but currently of Tybee Island, GA and Dustin D Gatliff, 47, of Warner Robins GA. She had three grandchildren: Blaine Keith Gatliff of Duluth, GA, Elaney Danielle Young of Savannah, GA and Jayden (Gatliff) Marney of Warner Robins, GA; brother: Richard Floyd Bennett of Blairsville, GA; sisters: Shirley Anne (Bennett) Alexander of Tifton, GA, Katherine Ramona (Bennett) Hendrix of O’Fallon, IL, and Bunnie Faith (Bennett) Bazemore Belflower of Warner Robins, GA and many nieces and nephews.
