Obituary for James R. "Jimmy" Pearson, Jr.

Fort Valley, GA – James Russell “Jimmy” Pearson, Jr., 84, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, in Fort Valley, GA. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 11:00 am at Oaklawn Cemetery in Fort Valley. The visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory in Warner Robins, GA. Mr. Bill McGehee will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
Jimmy was born on December 23, 1936, in Fort Valley, GA to the late James and Gladys (Garrett) Pearson. He was a graduate of Fort Valley High School and Auburn University. While attending Auburn University, he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Upon graduating, Jimmy settled in Columbus, GA, where he became the manager of Bill Heard Truck Leasing Division for his longtime friend, Bill Heard.
Jimmy was a blessed man who never met a stranger. He made friends with everyone and was loved by many. Married to his best friend and loving wife, Mary Kirksey of Fort Valley, GA. They spent many years traveling and endless hours with family and friends. Jimmy shared his passion for fishing with everyone and some of his most precious time was spent on Lake Seminole fishing with both his boys.
Jimmy leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary (McGee) Kirksey of Fort Valley; children: James Russell Pearson, III and his wife Charlene, along with their sons, Rudy and Tucker of Columbus, GA, Lynn Scott Pearson, and his wife Elizabeth, along with their daughters Virginia and Lynn of Columbus, GA, Ashley Todd Kirksey and his wife Natalie, along with their son Eli of Greeley, CO and their daughter Jessica Kirksey and her husband Andrew Berner of Ventura, CA. sister: Jane Hulbert and her husband Skeet of Perry, GA; brothers: John Pearson and his wife Debbie of Perry, GA, and Joe Pearson and his wife Connie of Fort Valley. Many loving nieces and nephews.
