Perry, GA- Joseph Lynwood Bacon, Sr., 94, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Heart of Georgia Hospice Inpatient Unit in Perry, GA. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Perry, GA with military honors. The family request in lieu of flowers, please make donations to United for a Cure: Mary Elizabeth, Melissa, Lake Fund which will specifically be used for research for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a relentless form of childhood cancer.
Mr. Bacon was born in Moultrie, GA on November 11, 1923 to the late Albert Hartwell and Mattie Elizabeth (Nicholson) Bacon. He proudly and faithfully served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Mr. Bacon graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and used that education to further serve his country as a Senior Chemist at Robins Air Force Base, from which he retired. He was very active in the community in various civic clubs. He was a member of the VFW and Mason’s where he served as chaplain for both organizations and was a member of the Lions club, where he served as president. Mr. Bacon loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vonnie (Baber) Bacon and his great-granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Paris.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Judy Posey of Perry, GA, Kay Sherrill of Canton, GA and Lynn Bacon of Perry, GA; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
