Obituary for Joseph Walter "Joe" Watson

Byron, GA – Joseph “Joe” Walter Watson, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the Heart of Georgia Inpatient Unit in Perry, GA. Services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 11:00 am at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory with full masonic rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Masonic Youth Home, 1417 Nottingham Dr, Macon, GA 31211, or to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 950 W Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605.
Joe was born on November 29, 1944, in California to the late Ira and Dorothy (Dickens) Watson. He was a 1963 graduate of Pelham High School in Pelham, GA. After college, Joe worked various jobs early in his career, one being at his family’s accounting firm until being hired on to the railroad with Norfolk Southern, where he worked until his retirement. He was a people person, who if you met him, he was your friend. Joe had a servant’s heart and it showed through his commitment with the Mason’s, and Al-Sihah Shriner’s. He served in many capacities while serving these organizations, such as Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge, Master of the Rutland Lodge #298, and Potentate of the Al-Sihah Shriner’s. He was a thirty-third degree mason. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed everything outdoors, including fishing, hunting, and searching for arrowheads. He also enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, which they took multiple times each year. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Watson, Sr. and his nephew, Wayne Watson, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Linda (Harris) Watson of Byron; sons: Eric Watson of Byron, Ken Watson (Shaleen) of Perry, Michael Watson of Michigan, and Mitch Watson (Tiffiny) of Tifton; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; niece: Kerri Watson Stanford of Nashville, GA, and two great-nieces and nephew.
