Obituary for Michael Dwayne Mathews

November 18, 1968 – May 17, 2021

Michael “Mad Dog” Mathews went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 17, 2021.
Michael was a proud member of the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years of honorable service. He was a veteran of Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and the Bosnian Conflict and served in the Middle East, South America, and Europe.
After retirement, Michael served the 78th Communications Squadron at Robins Air Force Base, GA as well as 3 years in Stockholm, Sweden. Michael was a member of Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church in Peach County, GA.

Michael is survived by his wife of 31 years Emily ‘Sissy’ Deese Mathews; son, Brett Mathews (Lindsey) of Flowery Branch, GA; daughter, Erin Mathews Root (Ray) of Dahlonega, GA; son, Ethan Luke Mathews of Dahlonega, GA; parents, John and Charlotte Mathews of Buena Vista, GA; brother, Steve Mathews of Buena Vista, GA; parents-in-law, William and Rhonda Deese of Byron, GA; sister & brother-in-law, Lenn and Jan Hall of Byron; nephews, Andrew and Ben Hall of Byron. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He deeply loved his family and they deeply loved him in return. Though his absence is painful, his memory will be cherished.

Services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 11:00 am at Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Garry Hall officiating. The interment will take place at Andersonville National Cemetery with full military honors at 2:00 pm following the church services.
