Fort Valley, GA – Paul Hansel Young, 96, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11:00 am at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel with interment immediately following at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fort Valley with military honors. The visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services.
Hansel was born on January 1, 1922 in Fort Valley, GA to the late Paul and Mayme Gertrude (Hartley) Young. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII, where he was a POW for 16 months. He was also a retired civil service employee from the United States Postal Service where he served as a clerk and assistant postmaster. Mr. Hansel was a longtime and faithful member of the Fort Valley Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed woodworking and restoring furniture. He will be remembered for the delicious cheese cookies and pound cakes he baked to share with family and friends. In addition to his parents, Hansel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah (Coley) Young, daughters: Paula and Donna Young, and brother: Dr. Zellner C. Young.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Dr. Sally Young Bray (Dr. Cecil Bray) of Statesboro, GA; 3 grandchildren: Mary Hope Bryant (Mike) of Brandon, MS, Hannah Joy DiNello (Eddie) of Brooklet, GA, and Charity Ruth Bray of Statesboro, GA; 4 great grandchildren: Michael, Murray, Braylen, and E.J. DiNello; sister: Jeanine McCameron (Dr. Fritz) of Baton Rouge, LA and his caregiver for many years, Marty Dayhoff.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association for research to eliminate the disease that took his dear wife or to Encompass Hospice.
