PERRY, GA
Stanley Roberts Gray, 68, passed away peacefully at Perry Hospital on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 after a brief battle with brain cancer.
Stanley was born on November 14, 1952 in Perry to Betty Connell Gray and the late William Walter Gray Jr. He was a 1970 graduate of Perry High School and attended Auburn University.
Stanley grew up working with his father on the family farm and eventually became a partner with him in running it. His other careers included working for a trucking company, overseeing special projects with the Houston County Board of Education, and finally managing projects for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
He enjoyed traveling to Saint Simons Island with good friends, watching Auburn football, and riding motorcycles. Stanley absolutely loved operating heavy equipment and could frequently be found assisting his brother, Steve with landscaping. He found great pleasure in mowing grass with his big riding mower, and he continued doing it until his declining health stopped him.
Stanley also loved playing with his two granddaughters. He was a loving father and grandfather, a big man with a big heart and a big smile. He was a friend to many and one of the kindest people you will ever meet. He will be missed by many.
Stanley was preceded in death by his father, William Walter Gray, Jr. and his sister-in-law, Janna Meaders Gray. Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Whitney Hinton (Kyle) of Ivey, Ga; 2 granddaughters: Morgan Watson and Aubrey Hinton; his mother, Betty Connell Gray of Perry; his siblings: Steve Gray, Lee Brown (Ken), and Walter Gray (Kelly) all of Perry; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Burpee Scott Memorial Chapel immediately followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Perry.
