Sylvia was born on June 20, 1933, to the late Bertie and Marjorie (Hudson) Amen, in Pawnee, OK. Sylvia grew up on a farm where life was hard but simple. A graduate from Pawnee High School, she went on to earn an associate degree. Later, she moved to Houston, TX and worked for Waukesha Sales & Service and Pearce Equipment Company. Sylvia decided to move to Irving, TX to be with her parents. She started working for Ramada Inn as the comptroller. She later changed to advertising before retiring.
Sylvia had many hobbies throughout her life. In her early years, she enjoyed figure skating and was quite good at it! Sylvia began a side business with her mother, making ceramics, which she really enjoyed until her mother passed away. Sylvia took a Leap of Faith and moved from Texas to Georgia to be closer to her youngest daughter. During her time in GA, she enjoyed crocheting, card making, wreath making, decorating her hats, decorating towels, gardening, dominoes and many arts and crafts. She was a member of the Hoyt Schofill Sunday School class, the Mail Out Gang, and the Amazing Grays with Southside Baptist Church. Sylvia was truly a genius with all her talents. One of her wishes was that the “Art of Crocheting” continue with the future generations.
Sylvia always made sure her children got on the bus every Sunday for church but did not attend herself. She wanted to make sure that her children knew who God was. For years, her children prayed that one day she would come to know Jesus. In May 2005, their prayers were answered when Sylvia accepted Jesus in her life at Southside Baptist Church. It was uphill from there as she made many friends through church. After she started her hat collection, she would wear a different hat to church each week and became known as “The Hat Lady”. Sylvia’s response was “you should wear one to Church.”
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Kenneth Crockett. Her memory will be forever cherished by her children: Steven Michael “Mike” Daigle (Frances), Kathleen, GA; Marjorie Kay Daigle King, Frisco, TX; Denise Bagby (Dennis), Mart, TX; and L. Michelle “Missy” Statzer (Keith), Kathleen, GA; her grandchildren: Joseph Michael Daigle, John Vincent Daigle, Shaun Statzer, Tyler Statzer, Kathrine Valley, Joshuah Bagby, Bryan Reese, Amber Kirkland and 15 Great-Grandchildren.
