Obituary for William Russell Ayres
William Russell Ayres, age 52 of Fort Valley, Georgia passed away on Thursday, February, 9, 2023. Services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, February, 13, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory with interment immediately following at Woodlawn Cemetery. The visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the services at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory. Elder Garry Hall will be officiating the services.
Russell was the beloved son of William and Margaret Ayres also of Fort Valley. He was big brother to Michael Ayres (Amy) and Monica Goodroe (Joe), and "cool" Uncle to Nick, Emily and Ashley Ayres and to Richard Goodroe.
Russell is a 1989 graduate of Northside High School and 1994 graduate of the University of Georgia where he majored in agriculture with a specialty in fruit crops. He was an avid fan of both the Eagles and the Bulldogs.
He joined the Georgia Forestry Commission in 1999 and was serving as the Nursery Coordinator when he retired in 2022. Russell had many special interests which occupied his time when he wasn't working. Among them were collecting arrowheads, old coins, antique pottery and fruit labels. He spent much of his spare time growing assorted fruit which he gladly shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his family, those left to mourn Russell are his special friends, Jody and Heather Smith and their four sons of Cartersville, GA; his great niece, Nova Ayres, and his cat, Tiger.
