Obituary for Wirt Whitley Durdin

Fort Valley, GA – Wirt Whitley Durdin, 90, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Heart of Georgia Hospice Inpatient Unit in Perry, GA. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory with interment immediately following at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services. Reverend John Beck will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Powersville United Methodist Church, 195 Lakeview Rd, Byron, GA 31008.
Wirt was born on May 18, 1931 in Nesbit, MS to the late Clay and Maggie May (Sanders) Durdin. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he was a purple heart recipient for his sacrifice for our country during the Korean War. Wirt worked in civil service at Robins Air Force Base and retired as Chief of the Aircraft propeller unit.
He was proud to be a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member Al Sihah Shrine for 65 years. Wirt was a lifetime member of both the disabled American Veterans and the Marine Corps League.
He was a faithful member of Powersville United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed the worship and fellowship. Wirt was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 70 years, Elizabeth (Digby) Durdin; children: Charles Wirt Durdin, Wanda Durdin Sullivan (Patrick) and Ritchie Allen Durdin (Jamie); grandson: Sheldon Napier Lee (Zephyr); brother: Robert Durdin (Janice); sister: Ruth Moore; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
