Centerville – MSGT Claude Vernon Cox, USAF, (Ret.), 80, went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Friday, October 28, 2016. Visitation will be Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel with services beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Vern was born to the late Etheridge and Lillie Elrod Cox on December 4, 1935 in Oliver Springs, TN. Vern proudly served his country by serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam and Korean era. He served worldwide, specifically in Germany and England. He retired as a MSGT after 21 years in the service. He then went on to work in civil service at Robins Air Force Base, where he retired as a Civil Engineer. He attended Harvest Church. He was a hard worker in everything he chose to do. An avid outdoorsman, he also loved gardening. He was a huge St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and the University of Tennessee Volunteers football fan. Most of all, Vern was known for his love of family.

His memory will forever be treasured by his devoted wife, LuAnne Cox, Centerville, GA; his former spouse and lifetime friend, June Ann Cox; his loving children: Danny Cox ( Nancy) Freeburg, IL; Maxine “Max” Byers (Randy Petering) Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Louise “LuLu” Cox, Warner Robins, GA; his 12 grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Lucille Heaton; Shirley Rucker (Willard); Carol Tolliver (Harold) and Roger “Bobby” Cox.
