Obituary for Roger Virgil Williams

Byron- Roger Virgil Williams, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2017 surrounded by his beloved family.
Born on March 21, 1936 in Jeff Davis County, GA, Roger proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired as a supervisor from Keebler after 32 years of service and was also a retired self-employed peach farmer. He was a skilled mechanic having worked for Houston Lake Auto Service for several years and was instrumental in the building and remodeling of Town and Country Animal Clinic. Roger attended Green Acres Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Wright and Maggie Williams; two brothers: J.B. Williams and Walter Williams (Dora).
Left to cherish his memory, are his wife of 55 years: Peggy Sheffield Williams; daughters: Elaine Dorsey (Bobby) and Shirley Gentry (Dan); five grandchildren: Deanne Layfield (William), Lisa Smith (Trey), Kristina Gentry, Elizabeth Gentry, Daniel Gentry; three great-grandchildren: James Layfield, Madison Layfield, Levi Smith; sister: Alice Walsingham (Dalton); sister-in-laws: Sue Broward (Dearl) and Allean O’Brien; brother-in-law: Leon Cannon (Mattie); many nieces and nephews and his faithful canine companion, Sam and adopted cat, Tom.
Services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Chapel with interment following at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
