Obituary for Ronald Lynwood ""Johnny"" Smith

Ronald Lynwood ""Johnny"" Smith
Ronald L. ”Johnny" Smith

November 16, 1957 - May 16, 2017 (age 59)

Ronald “Johnny” Smith of Macon, Georgia, passed away suddenly at his home during the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Cynthia Lowe Smith ("Cyndie"); Cyndie's parents, Wayne and Betty Lowe of Warner Robins; Cyndie's brother Randall Lowe (Joshua) of Orlando, Florida; Cyndie's sister, Deborah Lowe Meade (Randall) of Kathleen, Georgia; his daughter, Tiffanie Jordan (James) of Irvine, California; his daughter Brittanie Anderson (Brian); his son, Jeremy Smith (Lesli); his grandson, Axl Anderson, all of Kathleen, Georgia; his nephew, Erik Meade of Atlanta, Georgia; his niece, Kaelyn Meade of Kathleen, Georgia; and his nephews Jacob and Robert Lowe-Melendez of Orlando, Florida.

Johnny was born on November 16, 1957 at Robins Air Force Base Hospital in Warner Robins, Georgia. Upon graduating from Northside High School in Warner Robins in 1976, Johnny met Cyndie Lowe, the love of his life, and they married on February 10, 1979 at First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins. Johnny attended Macon College and State University and then went into business, where for many years he served as the Vice President of Lowe Corporation. During his tenure at Lowe Corporation Johnny was responsible for all construction, major projects of which included Peach Blossom Housing Development, Summers Landing, Windsor Forest, Heritage subdivision, Russell Glen, Sandy Run Golf Course, and the high tech development known as "The Park." Following his successful career in construction and development, Johnny opened the Mellow Mushroom Warner Robins in 2008 with his family and had recently expanded operations to take on the franchise in Macon.

Johnny was a devoted family man who was proud to see his daughters Tiffanie and Brittanie graduate from the University of Tennessee; and to see his son, Jeremy, play college baseball and then become an executive in the automotive business. Generous, kind, caring, selfless, and loving, Johnny dedicated his life in service to his family. Whether it was the countless hours he spent supporting his son’s baseball aspirations, the frequent trips to visit his daughters, the round-the-clock doting on his wife, or spending every other available minute playing “silly rabbit” with his dear grandson, Johnny always put those he loved first. His only ambition in life was for his wife and children to have everything they needed.

Many people will fondly remember Johnny’s love for college sports, especially the Tennessee Volunteers, and he could often be found telling his friends how the team was going to do better the following year, despite compelling evidence to the contrary. Johnny’s optimism, sense of humor, compassion, and desire to help others will be his lasting legacy.

There will be a visitation from 6-8 PM on Friday, May 19 at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel and Crematory, located at 2932 Highway 41, Fort Valley. The funeral service will begin at 2 PM on Saturday, May 20 at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Johnny’s name to the Humane Society of Houston County 810 Carl Vinson Parkway, Centerville, GA 31028; the Epilepsy Foundation Georgia: 6065 Roswell Rd #715, Atlanta, Georgia 30328-4030; or the Parkinson Disease Foundation: 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
