Samuel James Futch
Sam’s Life Journey

Sunrise:
November 19, 1934
Sunset:
November 7, 2016

Samuel James Futch, the youngest son of Willie Alfred Senior and Georgie Futch, was born in West Palm Beach, Florida on November 19, 1934. He received his education in Miami-Dade County Schools and was a 1953 graduate of Booker T. Washington Senior High School.
Upon graduation from High School, Sam enlisted in the U. S. Army where he served for two years before being honorably discharged. Sam then continued his education at North Carolina A&T University. Sam transferred to Bethune Cookman University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Sam then embarked upon a career that led him to his first job as an elementary teacher at Floral Heights Elementary School, where he met his future wife, Dorothy Sampson, whom he didn’t mind telling everyone that she was the love of his life. Sam and Dorothy enjoyed 48 years of marital bliss.
As a young boy, Sam gave his life to Christ, and was baptized. Sam grew up attending and working in the Church. Later in life he became a strong Christian. Sam loved his Father God, and his brother Jesus Christ. Sam was a faithful and dedicated member of St. James A.M.E. Church, Miami, Florida, under the leadership of Pastor T.C. Kelly, where he served as President of Steward Board #2, and a member of the Anne B. Smith, Choir #3. After relocating to Georgia from Miami in 1993, Sam joined Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church where he faithfully served as a Steward, Sunday School Teacher, and Financial Officer. Sam enjoyed working to improve the structure of his local Church. Nothing gave Sam more joy than attending his Church service. The fellowship hall at Allen Chapel AME was dedicated and named “The Samuel James Futch Fellowship Hall”.
Sam was not by trade but by heart a “handy man”. He was meticulous with keeping his yards well groomed; most of the time in the evenings while in Miami, and when he re-located to Georgia, you could ride by or call and Sam was in his yard doing something. Sam was extremely conscientious when it came to maintaining his yard; everything had to be done in an exact and precise way. At the end of the day, you would have thought that Sam had a landscaping business, but it was “Sam the Landscaper”.
Sam was called home on Monday, November 7, 2016 Sam leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife, Dorothy S. Futch; a faithful sister-in-law, Debra L. Eleby; a special nephew, Kenyatta D. Eleby of Miramar, Florida one god-daughter, Shakevia Daniely of Fort Pierce, Florida; many loving cousins and a host of family members and friends.
Sam will live on in the hearts of all who know and loved him.
There will be a visitation with the family on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 10:00am-10:45am with memorial services following at 11:00am in Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel .
